The Polish Chamber named after Prince Józef Poniatowski.

The Polish Chamber named after Prince Józef Poniatowski at the Castle Museum in Pszczyna has been set up on the initiative of Professor Zdzisław Żygulski, Jr., – eminent art historian, expert in the field of weaponry, museologist and a scholar in Oriental art – in liaison with the Museum’s Director, Maciej Kluss.

The core of the exhibition form exhibits belonging to old Lviv collection of Helena Dąbczańska – collector of books, works of art and items of artistic handicraft, who donated some of her collection to various museums in Poland and Lviv: burl table with a table top inlaid with semi-precious stone tiles from the beginning of the 19th century, and – originally belonging to the Baworowscy collection – a mirror in a carved, gilded Baroque frame from the end of the 18th century and a wooden, twelve arm chandelier from the second half of the 18th century, decorated with crystal droplets. The exhibition is complemented with items donated by Professor Zdzisław Żygulski, Jr., namely polonica from the collection of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna and reproductions of valuable exhibits made available by the Princes Czartoryski Foundation and the National Museum in Warsaw.

The role of the Polish Chamber is to make known the links between Pszczyna and Polish culture, as represented by one of the most celebrated Polish national heroes, Prince Józef Poniatowski.

Professor Teresa Grzybkowska and Marcin Nyga are curators of the exhibition.

The purchase of the exhibits for the Polish Chamber named after Prince Józef Poniatowski was co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland
