Incoming exhibition is a review of selected works by the artist: drawings, paintings, ceramics, objects and installations that make up the title series Post quam
, prepared from 1979 to the present day. The works are inspired by events from the artist's life, which, as he writes, left indelible furrows in thoughts, feelings and understanding
and are autobiographical in nature. According to the author, the meaning of the title may also refer to all creativity understood as an intentional and precedent-setting process that lasts over time
, in which works grow on the basis of other works.
Using a variety of forms, my Post-quam is not the fruit of anticipating later events; it is not a venue for my prophetic abilities. Moreover, it is not, and cannot be, an anti-academic approach; it is a fear of peril and loss. Daily, persistent work leads to solutions that are surprising, and may be controversial to the artist himself.
Andrzej Marian Bartczak
The point is to juxtapose materials from the work of Andrzej Bartczak, manhandled during the creative process, recalling “debris” from armed conflicts, what remains from war as the civilization of death, and the ex definitione fragility of ceramics, practically the only thing that remains after civilizations of life.
