The Remembrance Museum’s mission is to commemorate the inhabitants of the land of Oświęcim with particular emphasis on the period of World War II and the aid that locals rendered KL Auschwitz prisoners, often at the risk of their own lives.
The Museum will be created in the historical building known as the “Lagerhaus” which is located approx. 200m from the former Nazi German concentration camp KL Auschwitz. Presently, renovation works are underway to adapt the building to the needs of the Museum as well as to design the permanent exhibition.
The primary aim of the Museum is the creation of a modern centre for the collection and description of materials documenting the people’s fate within their historical context.
It must be emphasised that it is thanks to the residents of the land of Oświęcim that we are able to successively achieve our aims. Our activity has been received with openness and interest, for it is residents who are creating the history of this place by handing over keep-sakes and mementos from their forefathers and sharing memories about them. A collection of recordings is a crucially important substantive foundation of the permanent exhibition being created as is the later research and academic work carried out by the Museum.
