The history of our institution dates back to the times of the Second Polish Republic. On June 1, 1923, by the decision of Marshal Józef Piłsudski, the Officer Artillery School was established, in which the Museum of Artillery Equipment was established. The rich collections of this museum and valuable archives did not survive World War II.

In the post-war period, the Officers’ School of Artillery had copies of historical artillery equipment, which were used in the didactic process. It was not until the late 1960s that the idea of creating an artillery museum at the school emerged. Finally, on January 14, 1977, the Artillery Museum was established at the Military Academy of Rocket and Artillery. Gen. Józef Bem (WSO) in Toruń. The aim of the project was to support the historical education of soldiers and to cultivate artillery traditions. Construction works began in the spring of 1978. The ceremonial opening of the museum took place on September 2, 1978, on the day of the 45th promotion of university graduates.

After the dismantling of the WSO, the museum was taken over by the Artillery and Armament Training Center established on April 22, 2002 in Toruń. In 2012, the collection of artillery equipment collected over many years was handed over to the Museum of Land Forces in Bydgoszcz, where the Museum of Artillery in Toruń was established, a branch of the Museum of Land Forces in Bydgoszcz. The new institution, continuing the museum and artillery traditions of Toruń, has been operating since September 2013.
