Cracow Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka - a national cultural institution - has its exhibitions in facilities that were once the royal salt enterprise: the salt mine and the Wieliczka Saltworks Castle. Both of these objects are included in the UNESCO List.
The museum presents the history of the royal enterprise, which had a huge impact on the economic development of Poland - in the times of King Casimir the Great, it provided 1/3 of the revenues to the treasury. This company is one of the longest operating in the world.
Saltworks Castle - former seat of the management board of the salt company (late 13th century - 1945). The historic complex includes: a castle with a tower and defensive walls, the remains of a saltworks kitchen from the 15th century (the oldest mass catering facility in Poland) and the oldest mining shaft in Poland from the mid-13th century.
