The National Museum of Technology was established on June 1, 2017 on the basis of the agreement “On the establishment and operation as a joint cultural institution by the State Treasury, on behalf of which are: the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Capital City of Warsaw”. By order of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of August 2, 2017.  The main seat of the Museum is located in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw at Plac Defilad 1.

Eleven years after regaining independence, in 1929, on the foundation of the former Museum of Industry and Agriculture, engineer Kazimierz Jackowski founded the Museum of Technology and Industry in Warsaw. He also became its first director. The idea of preserving and making available the material heritage of Polish technology, which was followed by engineer Jackowski, remains valid to this day. The National Museum of Technology in Warsaw continues and develops its missionary founding idea, documents the past in order to pass the memory of it faithfully to the future. The program and social role of the National Museum of Technology in Warsaw is defined by three goals:

PRESERVE for future generations the material testimony documenting the development of Polish technology, faithfully and impartially describing the events accompanying technical progress.

PRESENT the achievements and paths of change of Polish technical thought to the contemporary, not only from the period of the industrial revolution in Europe, but also reaching back to the beginnings of the Polish state.

INSPIRE the generation entering adulthood to choose a life path through engaged and active participation in constant technical progress, drawing knowledge from the achievements of their ancestors, reaching unrestrained imagination into the future.
