The terraces and Książ garden were developed in the eighteenth century, at first in the symmetrical French style. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the castle’s last mistress, Princess Daisy, brought about further embellishments. The British gardeners whom she engaged arranged some of the terraces in the English style, adapting them to the natural landscape. Today up to 14 terraces may be found at different levels, which together occupy an area of over 2 hectares. From 1 April to 30 September, visitors may explore, among other terraces, the charming Powder Terrace, the Terrace of the Floral Goddess with its magnificent sculpture, the Hazel Terrace, the Water Terrace (flanked by two towers), the Semi-circular Terrace, the Rose Terrace with its six-level cascading fountain, the West Terrace and the largest terrace, the wooded North Terrace (also known as the Arcade Terrace). The latter was made accessible to visitors only in 2010 after a renovation (partly financed by the provincial Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund ), during which its 19th-century appearance was restored.
