The “We wear culture” project is the result of cooperation between Google Arts & Culture, our Museum and world-renowned museums all over the world. Fashion designers, curators, experts as well as higher education institutions, museums and non-governmental organisations combined their efforts in order to show that fashion is part of our culture, a form of art and, above all, the result of true artisanal craftsmanship. Using cutting-edge technologies, such as virtual reality and ultra-high definition images, the project allows us to discover the history of fashion, from the ancient Silk Road to court dress of the Versailles and British punk, to stories of clothes worn today.
“We would like to encourage everybody to use their smartphone or laptop to visit our exhibition and learn the stories hidden behind the clothes they are wearing (...) What you are wearing is true culture and, very often, a true work of art”, says Amit Soot, the director of Google Arts & Culture.

The effect of cooperation between our Museum and Google Cultural Institute is the presentation of design of printed clothing fabrics from the times of the Polish People’s Republic. On the profile of the Museum you can find over 100 photos presenting, among other things, clothing fabrics designed by Anna Brokowska, clothes by the Hoffland brand, popular in the age of the Polish People's Republic, eye-catching outfits from the “Telimena” Fashion House in Łódź, or printed shawls and scarves. Moreover, we have prepared two virtual presentations. The first one, Be Colourful!, shows the richness of printed patterns decorating clothing fabrics and clothes produced in Poland. In turn, Textiles in Bloom presents different forms of printed floral patterns decorating women’s clothing manufactured in the times of the Polish People's Republic.

As the curator of this venture – Aleksandra Liberska – says, “We want to present a fragment of the diversified collection of the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź to audiences all over the world. Undoubtedly, the examples of achievements of Polish fabrics and clothes designers that form part of our collection are worthy of people’s attention. It is worth taking a closer look at the clothes sewn in the times of the Polish People's Republic, both those that were mass produced and those that were made by craftsmen and “home dressmakers”, in the context of world fashion history. We are given this opportunity thanks to the participation of Google Arts & Culture, which allows our collection to exist along with collections of other museums from all over the world and makes it possible for the global audience to have insight into the history and specificity of Polish fashion”.
