The main idea of the exhibition is to demonstrate the experiment proving the movement of the Earth around its axis. The deviation of the oscillation plane of the Foucault Pendulum from the initial position is the result of the Coriolis force - one of the forces of inertia acting in the rotating frame of reference, which is the Earth.
Toruń's Foucault Pendulum is 33 meters long and its heart weighs 35 kg. A full rotation of its vibration plane (characteristic for our latitude ~ 53oN) takes about 30 hours.
